    Lignite Mining in Louisiana 7,10,11,12,13,14,15 The first commercial mining of lignite in Louisiana began in September 1985, at Dolet Hills in Desoto Parish near Mansfield in the northwestern part of the state. In October of 1989 another mine, the Oxbow mine, in Red River Parish began production.
